Hope, Belief, Trust & Faith

Hope
Hope is an expectation that something will happen accordingly your will. Expectation may be good or bad.

Wish
Wish is either an expectation or a prayer being made that something good will happen with you or someone.

Belief (a noun)
  • The feeling of being certain that something exists or is true.
  • A religious faith.
  • Or an opinion
Believe (a verb)
An act of acceptance of belief
an opinion though it may not be true e.g. I believe the truth wins in last.

Trust
A firm belief in someone with assurance of security of self
Trust is something that is earned through actions. It’s first pillar of love.
e.g; if you play with a kid like “Throwing up and catching down. You will see the kid happy because the kid Trusts You that you will do no harm

Faith
A firm belief in something (that’s non existence)
e.g; I have faith in the supreme cause of the God.

Let’s do some brainstorming to check how long will you remember these definitions.

There was once a tight rope walker Charles Blondin. He could perform death defying feats without support or life saving equipment. Crowds gathered to watch his feats. He would walk across Niagara falls over the tight rope. In an event, He performed the daring stunt and also took a wheel barrow over the tight rope. He asked the audience ' Do you believe that I can take the wheel barrow over the tight rope'. Every one in the audience believed and cheered him. He said 'In case you believe I can do it, who will sit on the wheel barrow'. There were no volunteers.
Here we see that every one had a firm belief that he could carry the wheel barrow successfully over the tight rope. But no one wanted to volunteer to sit in the wheel barrow and trust him with their life. Here you see the difference between belief and trust. You have a belief that Blondin will do it successfully but you don’t want to trust him with your life.
Similarly in terms of hope, it is a positive emotion. We expect a positive outcome. If I were part of Blondin 's audience , at the beginning of every stunt, I will hope that he performs the stunt successfully. I will hope that there is no mishap due to any unknown weather condition. Hope is all about expectations.
Faith is a complete confidence in something. To form such a high level of confidence, Faith may not require a proof. We may have faith in God or our religion. There is a classic tale of a village suffering from drought and famine. Every one put their faith in prayer and decided to pray to god for rain. The example of faith was a small boy who came to the prayer with an umbrella. He had total faith that his prayers would be answered and he would need the umbrella for the rains that would come as a result of their prayers.
